Treevolution

Those of you who know me, know I have been working with trees my entire adult life. Starting at the age of tender age of 18, I picked four apple seasons in Washington State, and 30 years ago I eventually planted my own pear orchard in West Virginia. After moving to Asheville I have been working outwardly with the public for 13 years by participating in stewardship, and implementation of the Edible parks in Asheville, forming the Buncombe fruit and nut club, and teaching fruit tree care workshops through fruit school. Three years ago I formed the Nutty buddy collective which is a model of land access to young farmers without being strapped with debt so they can afford to plant long term orchards in proximity to viable markets.

The next step in my “treevolution” is what I am calling the Acornucopia project. There are many aspects of it, but essentially I want to create the World’s largest agricultural conglomerate and I want to invite you to be a part of it. This is its official launch and I hope to be sharing its unfolding story with you all in the upcoming year. I can not recall being as excited about a project before in my life. So much so, that I finally bit the bullet and joined facebook because I think it warrants making the sacrifice. This is a culmination of my life’s work.

I have also set up a crowdfunding campaign through Indegogo’s Generosity fund.

Generosity doesnt take a commission for campaigns that benefit the community. The fundraiser is a continuation of the Nutty Buddy fundraiser to buy a nut cracker. We now own a nut cracker that is available to the community. From that, the vision has cracked wide open and we are now wanting to set up a more comprehensive processing facility with the acquisition of an oil press, flour mill, curing facility, and all the supportive equipment necessary.

My hope is that this model of small scale cooperative food processing along with the revolutionary model of leveraging of assets that are open source all around us

will help us harness the native nuts that are so abundant in the fall and provide us with deeply nourishing food, while paying people dignified wages for work that is relevant to the needs of our world and regenerative to our environment and communities.

This is only the beginning.
